What are the benefits of CO2 laser skin resurfacing?

Patients will often see a marked reduction in fine and coarse lines, reduction of brown age spots, softening of coarse facial features, smoother tone, and a tighter appearance of the skin. Is treatment with the CO2 laser painful?
Patients are usually given a topical anesthetic cream along with oral pain medications and nerve blocks to numb the area to be treated. This regimen allows for the treatment to be comfortable with as little discomfort as possible. With the new laser treatments are now even more comfortable and fast – an entire face can be treated in as little as 5 minutes.

How long is the recovery process from the CO2 laser?
The recovery process from a CO2 laser is dramatically less than that of traditional laser resurfacing with either a CO2 or erbium: YAG laser. Recovery with this laser usually takes about 5-7 days (although individual results will vary) and includes moderate redness, swelling, and crusting. It is also possible for some pinkness or mild redness to persist for a slightly longer period as this is due to continued deep tissue repair.

Fractionated CO2 resurfacing dramatically improves the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, skin tone, texture, and pigmentation changes. Fractionated resurfacing can also be used to safely treat acne and traumatic scarring. Before treatment, a topical numbing cream is applied to the treatment area to minimize discomfort. After treatment, patients will experience only redness and mild swelling. “Downtime” is minimal, typically lasting 5-7 days for the average patient. Most patients only need one treatment to notice a dramatic improvement in their skin.
